Clothes with someone’s hands in them
Lehnga Bazar sells Indian ethnic wear made by people we know by name — bridal lehengas, handwoven Banarasi sarees, salwar suits, ghararas and shararas.
Almost everything sold as “ethnic wear” online passes through four or five hands before it reaches a photograph. By the time it does, nobody in the chain can tell you who embroidered it, how long it took, or whether the zari is metal or plastic.
We started in the other direction — with the karigars. A bridal lehenga with real zardozi is six weeks of somebody’s eyesight. A Banarasi saree on a pit loom in Varanasi is one family, one saree, and a month of it. Those are the pieces worth carrying, and they are the ones a shop can only stock if it is willing to buy in small numbers and wait.
That is the whole business, and everything else here follows from it: why our runs are short, why our listings say what the fabric is, and why we would rather a piece be rented four times than bought once and forgotten.

Bought from the maker
Our pieces come from karigars and weaving families we deal with directly, not from a wholesale floor. It costs more and takes longer, and it is the only way to know what is actually in a garment.
Small runs, not stock
Most styles are made a few at a time. If something sells out it may not come back — which is the point of buying it in the first place.
Honest about the cloth
Real zari is described as real zari. A poly-blend georgette is described as one. Every listing says what it is made of, because a saree is a fabric before it is a photograph.
Worn more than once
A wedding outfit that hangs in a cupboard for a decade is a waste of somebody’s craft. That is why we also let partner shops rent theirs out, and why we cut ours to be re-worn.
Two ways in
Buy it, or borrow it
Some occasions are worth owning the outfit for. Most are not — and a piece you will wear once is a piece somebody else could be wearing next month.
